Visitors and new members
welcome About the
Newcastle Branch: Our 2008 Exhibition, Enchanted Forest. Will be held at The Newcastle Town Hall October 21 to 26, 2008 Approximately 90
embroiderers get together to chat and stitch from 10am, while most have
left by 2pm, there is a small group that are still there when the Night
Group ladies start to arrive later in the afternoon, usually after
work.
Our youngest guild member joined a few years ago at 18, our oldest guild member is 93. Most are somewhere
in between, with many of our embroiderers only getting interested in
embroidery after they retired from full-time work. There are approximately
28 night group ladies. Most of these ladies work full time and as expected
the average age of the night group ladies is lower than that of the day
group. Join others who share
an interest in all types of embroidery, it doesn't matter if you are an
expert or a complete beginner, just bring along something to stitch, a
coffee mug and your love of embroidery (the coffee mug is
optional). Embroiderers at the Guild have a broad range of embroidery
skills and interests. Some embroiderers like to cross-stitch, or other
counted thread techniques such as hardanger, others like to do more
creative or free-form embroidery. Some do three dimensional embroidery
such as stumpwork. Some embroiderers work is very traditional and others
is very modern or contemporary. Workshops and classes
are held regularly in a wide range of embroidery styles and techniques.
Workshops have been held on many different techniques including Schwalm,
Hardanger, Shadow-work, Stumpwork and Goldwork. Members have access
to an extensive library at the Newcastle Branch as well as the library at
the Guild's headquarters in Concord Sydney. Newcastle
